If you haven't already been to one of these events, I suggest you give it a try. On the first Saturday of each month, Target sponsors an event aptly named First Saturdays. Each event offers a different collection of artistic expressions that encapsulate the theme of the evening. They may include short-films, hands-on art exhibits, performances, and always end with a dance party.
The best part is you can enjoy all of this, absolutely free!
April 2nd, May 7th, and June 4th will be the last times you can enjoy First Saturdays while experiencing the works of Jean-Michel Basquiat. The exhibit closes June 5th.
Directions to the Brooklyn Museum can be found here.
Hope to see you there!

This past Wednesday I received an email from GoDaddy:"Federal Agency Nixes Your Right to Privacy." WHOA. It stated that the NTIA had recently disallowed new private .US domain registrations and will also force current private .US registrations to forfeit their privacy within the year. I saved my $3.99 and did not privatize, so this decision will have no immediate impact on me, but there are certainly others that will now have to go public in the Whois Registry. The trouble began when the NTIA sent a letter to NeuStar that stated that they must stop selling private .US domains and provide the whois data on all private .US registrants. The NTIA had also demanded compliance within two weeks. The NTIA's stance is that the decision is not a new ruling, but that they are only enforcing an old provision that came under review.
To learn more visit Wired, Computer Business Review or the Washington Post. Another organization, The Danger of No Privacy, offers a petition against the ruling that you can sign. This organization has also created a module that allows you to email your US Senators and US Representative about this ruling.
This is not a joke.
Forces unknown have called for a Clown Uprising to invade midtown sports bars starting at 8:00 pm tonight (Friday 4/1) in Bryant Park.
If you've been cursing yourself for missing Chenguin, Santacon, Rush Hour Rabbits, The Madagascar Institute, or any other invasion of NYC's streets by weirdos now is another chance.

Fulton Fish Market, originally uploaded by overunder
It is goodbye time to yet another New York institution. The Fulton Fish Market is packing up and heading to the Bronx permanently on June 10th according to the New York Times. So for those who are interested in photographing one of the last vestiges of maritime life in Manhattan, your time is running out. Apparently the best time is to go between 3am and 7am Monday and Thursday (first day of the catch) and wear some boots. I plan on going this next week, so if anyone is interested drop me a line or we can make it a mini-meetup.
This week's New York Magazine has a short Photo Essay, but frankly local photobloggers have better photos. Check out photos from Joe's New York, Overshadowed, and Keith's Flickr Set. As always, there is more information from the Gothamist.
In the very near future, we will be introducing the first installment of a weekly interview series. We are currently working out the logistics of a Q&A format, but if anyone has any suggestions on what they would like to learn from the NYC Area Photobloggers (i.e.- favorite locations, inspirations, digital-darkroom process, etc.), please let us know by commenting to this entry.
This could be a very fun installment and I for one am looking forward to learning a few tricks from many of you.

The Winners of the 2005 Photobloggies have been announced.
