The Flatiron H&M in the Wild

The Flatiron, originally uploaded by akrubin

I've heard about the H&M Advertisement on the Flatiron building before, but haven't seen it until this weekend, and it is gi-nourmous. Has anyone else seen the newly-donned Flatiron building?

Here's more Flatiron Ad photos, from Curbed comes Steichen's Flatiron, Remixed, and here is a Flickr group of the Most Photographed objects which New York subjects feature heavily in.

Oh, and no... I'm not really shilling for Flickr - I don't own stock - but if Yahoo/Ludicorp would like to give me some, that would be swell. I am a paying "pro" user, but Flickr makes posting to blogs just so damn easy. It took all of five minutes to write, rewrite, and post. I'm lazy^H^H^H efficient, so I look for time saving devices. If anyone has any story ideas or good photos, use this email address or email a contributer.

I hate to say it, but all this attention being paid to the H&M poster would just seem to encourage more monstronsities like this on construction sites... I understand putting ads on existing temporary scaffolds but it seems to me that this structure was erected specifically to hold the ad. Scaffolding is ugly and common enough in this city without people starting to see it as a revenue center.

It's horrible. They covered up one of the most beautiful works of art in this town with a giant poster! How about a big Coke banner over the Statue of Liberty? Why not?
