NowPublic.com Helps NYCPB Spread The Word

logo.gif

Several weeks ago we told you about a web site that is changing the way we look at photojournalism. NowPublic.com empowers citizen journalists, making it easier for local newsworthy stories to receive the exposure they may not receive through regional news agencies.

The following is a snippet from their site:

Technology has broken the corporate news monopoly. Digital cameras, camera phones, blogs, and RSS put the tools of the news trade into the hands of the public, and now real news comes from real people everywhere. Now you can demand coverage of the stories you care about—all you need is nowPublic.

Here public demand launches investigations. Story Ideas come from people on the ground, insiders, community leaders. Footage comes from eye witnesses, citizen reporters, people close to the real story. It’s open source news, and even in its infancy it’s richer, faster, more powerful than the infotainment it replaces.

So what does this mean for NYCPB? With NowPublic.com, RSS feeds from various sources can be used to create newsworthy stories. Once the feed becomes available, you can select entries that will be published on NowPublic.com; the result is a newsworthy story that can be read by NowPublic.com viewers across the globe! An example of this is tomorrow's NYCPB4 event. We pulled the RSS feed from this site and selected the NYCPB4 entry which we used as our NowPublic.com story. In addition, we tagged the story with "nycpb," making it easier to locate stories submitted by our faithful contributors and viewers alike!

But wait, there's more...

NowPublic.com offers the following features that may interest our readers:

Shot Lists: this feature lists the latest newsworthy events occurring in your local area. If you are close, you can take pictures as the story unfolds and upload them to NowPublic.com. NowPublic.com is currently working on various methods for notification, including e-mail, text messaging, and paging.

My Footage/Stories: Create streaming video footage of your story or, if you don't have a digicam, post a story using still photographs.

Finally, look for the NowPublic.com news feed to be featured on the front page of this site. We will be pulling all news stories submitted with the nycpb tag. So if there is a newsworthy event in NYC, you will read about it here!

So get out there, find interesting stories, post them to NowPublic.com and tag them "nycpb!"
