Moses parted the political seas to make way for it.

A US President broke ground for it.

A metropolitan area is in it.

A Rockefeller first guided it.

It has over 9 million items in one of its catalogs.

It is the largest of its kind in the world.

West Side Story’s home was here until it was built.

More than 6 world renowned architects designed it.

Although you might have thought otherwise, it is named for its neighborhood and not a person. The origin of the neighborhood's name is a mystery though.

Although it is very large, it only has twelve residents, (which averages out to 1.33 acres each).

For something so large, do you know where it is???

There are a number of events for this friday's 60th anniversary of the bombing at Hiroshima.

1:
The New York Buddhist Church (331 Riverside Drive, between 104 and 105th Streets) starting at 6:30 pm. Outside the Church is a statue that survived the bombing at Hiroshima. A gong will be rung at 7:15 pm, the exact moment of the bombing. This is followed by a procession up Riverside Drive to the Riverside Church where an interfaith ceremony will be followed by a number of performances.

2:
Shadow Chalking project at Houston & Bway (NE Corner) meets at 8:00 pm on friday. They will be chalking the shadows that were found on buildings after the bombing up and down broadway between Houston and 14th Street. The organizers have asked for people to come out to help document the project.

3:
RingOut.org is holding a ringout in the Pinetum in Central Park. The ringout is at 6 followed by an avant-jazz score and an instillation piece which criticizes the GOP's nuclear policies.

The Pinetum is NE of the Great Lawn. The 86th Street B/C trains are the closest to the event.

New Magnum Photos Feature: Satellites by Jonas Bendiksen | © Magnum Photos and Jonas Bendiksen
Here I am again reporting from Vienna today (will be back in New York mid August!).

Magnum has launched a new multimedia essay of jonas bendiksen today. A combination of his images from the former region of the USSR and his voice talking about his work and the photographs.

This posting has nothing to do with our photoblogging community but I still think that these essays are interesting for a lot of us photo enthusiasts. You can see all of the produced multimedia essays on their site here.
