JPG Magazine has introduced a theme that will likely intrigue the NYC Photoblogger. "Photography is Not a Crime" is the 5th issue of the famed online photo mag and submissions are currently being accepted (submission deadline is January 15th).

"In a post 9/11 age of paranoia and suspicion, public photography is increasingly seen as threatening, or mistaken as criminal. And we here at JPG are sick of it.

So we're devoting issue 5 to this important topic. The theme, "Photography is Not a Crime," is a rallying cry. It's meant to remind everyone that amateur photographers are the documentarians of real life. People with cameras bear witness to the everyday dramas of ordinary people. We capture our world to help us understand it.

We are not terrorists. We are not dangerous. And we are certainly not a threat.

For issue 5, we're asking you to go out in public and take photos. Insist on your rights as a photographer. Shoot where people tell you not to. Talk to people about why you're there and what you're doing. Make a statement."

For submission details, please visit the JPG Magazine Web Site.

The "is that a candy cane in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?" jokes come early this year to NYC as the annual event featuring more than a hundred and less than a thousand (hopefully) people dressed up in Santa suits and wandering around the city starts this saturday at an undisclosed location.

Not quite the same event as in years past, the Santacon has grown kinder and gentler as its gotten more attention and participation. I'm told some participants are actually kind to children. Sad but true.

The details are only revealed at the last minute but plan on bringing the following if you want to participate: Santa Suit, Metrocard, good walking shoes, cash money.

Following the opening party for "New Work, New York," this site experienced an onslaught of visitors that even today, has not let up. More and more visitors are finding their way to this site on a daily basis and now would be a great opportunity to put out a call for contributors.

The Flickr feed is not enough to keep the site interesting, so we ask that if you have the time to post one or two entries a month, please let us know. You could also send me a post you want me to add to the site if you don't want to be a regular contributor.

Please note, contributing does not mean posting your photographs. We need people to post entries that tell photobloggers about events, equipment, or anything else related to photography, photoblogging, and NYC. So please don't ask about how to submit photographs.

Want to be a contributor or just send topics at your leisure? E-mail me at jonathandgreenwald [at] gmail.com!

We hope to hear from you!
