The Mass Transit Strike 2005 has practically ground traffic in the city to a hault, and while various sides debate on the legality of such a strike verses the rights of workers, New Yorkers are taking to the streets to cover the event.
NYC photoblogger Adam Fields took his Canon to 96th Street where the police blockades were preventing cars with fewer than four passangers from passing. His Flickr site has some really amazing photos of the strike including the police offcer holding back a traffic jam as far as the eye can see (above) and non-carpoolers arguing with police to be let through the barracade.
Of course, he's not the only one, and photos on Flickr tagged "transit strike" are cropping up faster than my DSL connection can handle.
Meanwhile, as reported on BoingBoing, the NYC Metbloggers are promising to cover the event "Blow by freakin' blow." Also, everyone's favorite Brooklyn political bookshop, VoxPop, is hosting a "Strike Speak-Out" today at 2PM for anyone that's in the neighborhood, to give both sides a chance to take their case to the people.
