In many large cities, street photography is becoming increasingly popular. It is not uncommon to see photographers with cameras hanging by their side while they snap photo after photo of unsuspecting subjects. The result, an obscurely angled photograph with sometimes very interesting facial expressions or moments of vulnerability, could not be captured if the photograph was staged or the subject was forewarned.

Browse the archives of a street photographer's photoblog and there are many of the same questions and comments about security, rights of the subject, and the guts to snap a photograph when the photographer is sometimes inches from the subject's face. Regardless of the answers, street photography is very popular and the results often speak for themselves.

If you are a street photographer, we want to know what makes for an interesting photograph and how you approach each shot. If you have any tips for others that would like to attempt photographing unsuspecting subjects on the streets of NYC, let us know!
